A private, unhurried first step

Losing your hair can feel overwhelming, and choosing a wig for the first time raises a lot of questions. Our free wig consultation gives you a full hour, one to one with Debbie Wiseman, in the private wig room at our Tilbury salon. Debbie has been hairdressing for over 40 years, is professionally trained by Trevor Sorbie and is accredited by My New Hair, the charity founded by Trevor Sorbie to support people through medical hair loss.

How to book

Wig consultations are booked by phone rather than online. Call the salon on 01375 842568 and Debbie will ring you before your appointment to talk through your needs. She may ask you to send a few photos of how you like to wear your hair, so she can have suitable options ready for you to try.

What happens at your consultation

  • A conversation first. Debbie listens to what you are going through, how you like to look and how you live day to day.
  • Trying on wigs. You try a selection of synthetic wigs in the privacy of our wig room, and Debbie can order human hair options too.
  • Honest advice. She explains the differences in look, comfort, care and cost so you can decide with confidence.
  • Care and fitting. If you go ahead, Debbie shows you how to look after your wig and can personalise the fit and style.

Who it is for

The consultation is for women experiencing hair loss for any reason, including chemotherapy, alopecia, thinning hair or a medical condition. Many clients come from Tilbury, Grays and across Thurrock and Essex. You are very welcome to bring a friend or family member for support.

VAT on wigs

If you wear a wig because of hair loss from a medical condition or its treatment, you may not have to pay VAT on it. Debbie will explain how this works at your consultation.

    After recently being diagnosed with breast cancer and being told I would lose my hair to chemo I knew my confidence would plummet. I went in for a wig consultation with Debbie it was a fantastic experience! Debbie called me a few days before the consultation to ask a few questions and to find out what my hair was like (colour etc) and when I got there she had already picked one out similar to what I had described and its the one I went with! She is absolutely incredible at what she does and is so friendly and welcoming. Its safe to say I walked out of there feeling so much more confident and had a massive smile on my face.     Where do I start as I was a little nervous about trying a new spot, but Debbie and Edna put me at ease immediately as soon as I came through the door. Debbie really took the time to understand my face shape and lifestyle as I’m looking at wearing a wig & wanted some advice on where to start. We went through all the choices and decided on the best one for me which of course was the first one I tried 🤭🤭 then when we were finished with the wigs, I got a trim which Debbie helped me decide on how much to have cut off before she even picked up the scissors.     I visited Debbie yesterday to have a wig consultation. She had phoned me the week before to introduce herself and to get my ideas on what colour and styles I was thinking of having. She also asked me to send any photos of styles I like and how I used to have my hair before I lost it completely due to ongoing chemotherapy. The call beforehand really put me at ease about the appointment and was very reassuring about what to expect on the visit. On arrival at the salon I was greeted by the lovely welcoming Debbie and shown into a private room where on display were 8 or so wigs all matching my preferences. The whole process and advice was second to none - friendly, kind, no pressure, no hard sell, no obligation and laughs along the way. I left there with my wig on, feeling a new woman. I cannot recommend the lovely Debbie enough for anyone considering having a wig for whatever reasons. She really knows her stuff! The salon is easy to find and has plenty of parking available outside.

    I came here to try some wigs, I was so nervous but I really didn’t need to be as Debbie was so lovely and completely put me at ease. We were in a room away from everyone else so we could talk privately. I would definitely recommend going here if you need a wig.

    I’m currently undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. Was recommended by a family member to go and see Debbie down here who specialises in wigs as loosing my very long hair has been the hardest part for me! Was made to feel so comfortable from the minute I walked in and was taken into a private room for the free consultation which I thought was a lovely touch for privacy. Was very overwhelmed as the colours just didn’t feel right and it wasn’t my own hair! But Debbie ordered it in in a couple of other shades to try and match my own hair colour. These came in within a couple of days and I did think what’s the point of going, I’m still not going to like as it’s not my own hair. I’m so glad I did! I cried but happy tears as I felt like me again! Was made to feel so comfortable and was made to feel totally confident in putting it on myself and how to care for it before I left. Amazing price aswell as I know others who have paid hundreds more for one and I couldn’t warrant that money. Came out with the biggest smile I’ve had in months and that’s all down to Debbie. Thank you, you’re so good at what you do and I would highly recommend to anyone going through the same and needing that little pic me up and made to feel normal again! Nicki

Yes. The consultation is free and there is no obligation to buy a wig on the day.
