What to expect at your first wig consultation

Arranging a wig consultation for the first time can feel daunting, especially if you are experiencing hair loss. Knowing what to expect beforehand makes the whole process easier. At The Classic Hair Company in Tilbury, Essex, every wig consultation is carried out in a private, relaxed setting by a Trevor Sorbie approved wig specialist.

How to arrange your appointment

To book a wig consultation, give the salon a call. Once your appointment is booked, I will send you a message asking if it is okay for me to call you. That phone conversation is an important first step. It gives me a chance to understand your situation, ask about your hair and find out what you are hoping to achieve, so I can have a thoughtful selection of wigs ready for when you visit.

I will also ask you to send over any photos of styles you like or how you normally wear your hair. This helps me prepare options that suit you from the start. It also means you have my personal number, so you can contact me with any questions before or after your appointment.

What happens during your visit

Because we have already spoken on the phone, your in salon appointment can focus on finding the right wig for you. You will be shown a selection I have chosen based on our conversation, and you can try on different styles in a private room without feeling rushed or self-conscious.

I will talk you through the differences between cap types, fibre options and fitting methods as we go. If you are unsure about anything, this is your time to ask.

If you find a wig you like, it can be personalised to suit your face shape with cutting and styling techniques that make it look and feel natural.

How long does a consultation take?

A typical wig consultation lasts around one hour. This gives you enough time to try on several styles, talk through your options and ask any questions without feeling hurried. You are welcome to bring a friend or family member along for support.

Do I need to prepare anything?

After you book your appointment, I will be in touch to arrange a phone call before your visit. During that call I will ask you about your hair and what you are looking for, so there is nothing you need to have ready when you first ring the salon. If you have photos of hairstyles you like, I will ask you to send those over before your appointment so I can prepare the right selection for you.

If you are unsure whether a synthetic or human hair wig would suit you better, our guide to synthetic wigs vs human hair wigs explains the key differences.
